Chapter 3
"Not playing you're little game." Sabrina scoffed.
"I'm not playing any game." Justin answered.
"I just want to go back to my nonexistent life until the next confrontation." Sabrina shook her head.
"Just hear me out." Justin rebuffed.
Sabrina rolled her eyes and crossed her arms and stared at him. "Well?" she demanded.
"Come with me tonight, you can prove that Melody isn't different and pretend that you don't know that we're meeting them. Joey will dump Melody, sweep you off your feet, and everybody's happy." Justin reasoned.
"For starters, Melody would know or at least suspect something. She'll hate me even more than she does now and make my life worse. Joey will be pissed that I led him to believe that I was her." Sabrina paused for a moment before continuing. "You know what, I am so fucking sick of Melody and the games she plays with people. I'll go tonight, just to piss her off. What do I need to fear, she already makes my life miserable. This time I throw the wrench in her plans." Sabrina stated.
"So you'll go with me?" Justin sounded surprised.
"I'll go, but I'm not going to say much. I'll pretend to be surprised to see her and Joey. I'll just be there to drive her nuts. Are you sure you want to waste a perfectly good date on me? Because no offense, but I don't like you like that." Sabrina asked sheepishly.
"I'll do anything to see that Melody keeps her claws out of Joey. And besides, I don't consider it a waste, so don't think so lowly of yourself." Justin smiled.
"You guys should come too." Sabrina suggested of Wade and Amber.
"What do you say Amber? Wanna join them?" Wade asked her.
"Oh Wade, I thought you'd never ask." Amber playfully batted her eyes at him.
"Guys, do not tell anyone or mention even the slightest hint that I work for Wade. I do not want her to know. I'll be ticked if she so much as hears anything about wear I work."
"Don't worry, we won't mention anything about it." Amber assured her.
"Might as well know that she won't acknowledge me as her sister. Doesn't matter if we look almost identical, she won't admit it." Sabrina sighed and started clearing the table.
"Don't worry about it, hon, we'll all be there to help you. As a matter of fact why don't you go with me and Amber with Justin." Wade said wanting to protect the woman he'd come to see as a sister.
"That would actually look less suspicious." Justin added.
So it was decided. Sabrina would be Wade's date and Amber Justin's. They cleared the table and helped with the dishes then left vowing to be back to pick Sabrina at six thirty.
It was about two o'clock when Sabrina made it to the studio after finishing her homework. She turned on some music and was in her own little world dancing the frustrations out of her body for the next three hours.
She was exhausted and sweaty by the time she left the studio. Her body was pleasantly sore as she'd given it her all. One thing as for certain, she was feeling ten times better about the evenings events.
Showered and dressed in a baggy brown frock, Sabrina was ready and waiting for Wade to come. She'd chosen not to dress up. She just wore a light brown frock that flowed around her as she moved. She wore a pair of flip flops and several big bangle bracelets adorned her wrists to top it off. She left her hair down and brought a hairtie just in case.
The doorbell rang and Wade stood waiting outside her door.
"Looking good Sabby." Wade complimented taking her arm and spinning her.
"Thank you. You look pretty good yourself bossman." Sabrina smiled taking in his khaki pants and button down shirt with a white wifebeater underneath.
Sabrina grabbed her handbag and took his arm where they went down to the car. Sabrina could see Amber and Justin sitting in the backseat waiting for them.
"You guys are pathetic, you look like your great Aunt Marge is sitting between you threatening to pinch." Sabrina smirked as she slid in the front seat.
"I told them that too." Wade agreed getting behind the wheel.
"Aren't first dates supposed to be awkward?" Amber defended.
"Whatever you say." Sabrina laughed knowing her friend had a crush on Justin.
"Where would you kiddies like to eat?" Wade asked pulling out onto the street.
"Somewhere simple." Sabrina answered.
"Backseat, any suggestions?" Wade asked looking in the rearview mirror.
"I'm open." Amber answered.
"Let's go to Denny's." Sabrina suggested.
"Sounds good to me." Wade agreed.
"I haven't been to Denny's in years." Justin commented.
"I'm content." Amber added.
"Denny's it is then." Wade said getting into the left turning lane.
They continued the rest of the trip in silence except for the radio playing. When they arrived they pulled into the parking lot and went inside.
They talked to the waitress about getting the most secluded table they could as not to cause a scene. After all, it wasn't every day Justin Timberlake and Wade Robson came in.
They were seated in the back where there were only two other tables.
"What's good to eat here?" Justin asked opening his menu.
"The philly chicken sandwich thing. Its a checkin breast sandwich with swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms and peppers. It's really good. I'm going to order that, I'm starving. I was at the studio for three hours." Sabrina said closing her menu.
"Damn, why were you there so long?" Wade asked closing his menu as well.
"Working out some frustrations." Sabrina shrugged.
"Obviously." Justin chuckled.
The waiter came and took their orders. It was obvious that she was smitten with Wade as she kept looking at him. When she left they all started laughing.
"She wants you man." Justin laughed.
"Shut up." Wade glared at him.
"She had to have been at least forty years old. I dare you to ask for her number." Sabrina wiggled her eye brows up and down at him suggestively.
"You're as bad as Joey. That's exactly what he would say." Wade shook his head.
Sabrina wasn't sure how to respond to that comment so she merely shrugged.
The rest of the meal was finished in silence with a bit of small talk, but they were mostly focused on their food and the evenings rapidly approaching events.
As they drew closer to meeting Joey and Melody, the more Sabrina lost her nerve. By the time they reached the movie theatre, she convinced herself she was making a huge mistake and that she should go home before she was hurt by both Joey and the always hateful Melody.
Wade had to literally calm her down as she rambled off all the reasons she should just turn around and go home.
"Sabby, you can do this. You will get through this and for once put Melody in her place. You owe this to no one but yourself. You deserve some happiness for once in your life. Just come in with is, if anything happens I'll take you out of there. Now give me a smile." Wade demanded.
"Thank you Wade, I needed that." Sabrina smiled weakly.
"Don't worry about it, now come on, lets be that Corey and Topanga couple that everyone loves and hates." Wade said tucking her hand underneath his arm.
They followed Justin and Amber into the building and went to purchase tickets. Wade was handing the guy his money when Joey and Melody walked in.
"Come on sweetie." Wade guided with a gentle hand on the small of her back.
"Relax." he whispered for her ears alone.
Sabrina smiled sweetly and shot him a look that clearly said 'easy for you to say'.
They waited for Justin and Amber who were walking over to them right then.
"You'll be fine." Amber mouthed to Sabrina.
Sabrina tried to hide behind Wade as Joey and Melody approached them. The look on Joey's face said that he'd already discovered Melody's cheery disposition, or lack there of.
Wades hand tightened around hers as Melody's glare spotted her standing there.
"Hey man, I didn't know you were coming." Joey nodded at Wade.
"Yeah, I was there when Justin talked to you earlier. It'd been a while since I went to a movie." Wade explained. He could tell Sabrina was trying again to try and hide. He hoped she'd forgive him, then brought her back to his side and put his arm around her waist drawing her close.
Joey's eyes widened when he looked at Sabrina who seemed to be trying to hide. He then looked at Melody who was shooting daggers at her.
"This is Sabrina." Wade said introducing her.
"Hello." Sabrina said softly, wishing again that she'd have stayed home.
"Joey." he answered with a nod. "And this is my girlfriend Melody."
"I know who she is." Sabrina said meeting her sisters stare dead on.
"Hello." Melody answered coolly.
Everyone noticed the awkwardness before Sabrina jumped in and began to speak.
"Don't we have a movie to get to?" she reminded them.
"Yes, we should probably go in. We don't want to miss anything." Wade agreed.
Sabrina practically pulled his arm to follow Joey and Melody who led the way.
"I told you this was a bad idea." She whispered to Wade as they walked down the hall towards their theatre.
"It hasn't been bad. Don't worry about it. Have a good time, I mean you're on a date with me. I am fun, you remember that." Wade boasted.
"I don't know if your head can fit through the door." Sabrina laughed.
"Well I'll let you go in front of me so you can pull me if my head does get stuck." Wade snickered letting her go in first.
"Oh look you did fit." Sabrina commented as he walked right past.
They were all seated in the same row and without realizing it, Sabrina ended up between Wade and Joey.
Sabrina knew she couldn't switch with Wade without making a scene. She silently sighed and scooted as close as she could to Wade. They were playing various trivia slides and the movie tunes were playing. They had about five minutes before the movie started when a familiar song came on.
"Hey Sabby, it's your favorite song." Amber leaned over Wade to tell her.
"That's right, it's a good song. Not my favorite, but it is a good one." Sabrina nodded in agreement.
"Who is it?" Wade asked her.
"I'm very surprised that you don't know it." Sabrina rebuked.
"Bite me." Wade answered.
Sabrina leaned over and bit him on the neck then answered. "It's One Word, by Kelly Osbourne."
"I can't believe you just bit me." Wade said rubbing his neck.
"I can." Melody snorted.
"Nobody asked you Mel." Sabrina rolled her eyes.
Melody refrained from commenting, but just snorted again.
"Contain yourself." Wade warned Sabrina.
Joey was confused as to what was happening. It was obvious that this girl and Melody didn't get along at all. He turned his head in Sabrina's direction and studied her for a few seconds. She looked so much like Melody that it was scary. He could tell that for some reason, she was avoiding him. For one moment she looked into his eyes and it hit him.
"Oh my god." He said rather loudly.
"What's the matter?" Melody asked him.
"Nothing, I just remembered something." Joey answered.
Sabrina closed her eyes and wished to disappear. He knew, dammit, he knew the truth. She desperately wanted to leave, but if she did that then Melody wins again.
"He knows." Sabrina whispered to Wade.
"What did you expect. He's not stupid you know, give him more credit than that." Wade gently rebuked her.
"I know." Sabrina sighed resting her head on the back of her seat.
Moments later the movie started and for the next two and a half hours, life didn't matter, there was only the movie playing in front of them.
Sabrina's emotions were on edge so she was crying through many parts of the movie, especially when Aslan was killed. Her nose was running profusely and to her dismay, she didn't have any tissues so she was running and leaking everywhere. She was moments away from discreetly using her sleeve when a kleenex appeared in her hand.
"Thanks." she muttered hoping whoever gave it to her could hear her.
Through her fog of tears she heard Joey's soft voice whisper you're welcome.
She held the tissue finding herself dry and content to focus on the movie.
After the movie they found themselves heading to a coffee shop located one block from the theatre. They ordered their drinks then sat down, as the staff would bring their drinks out to them.
"That was a good movie." Amber said breaking the silence.
"I'm impressed that was a Disney movie." Wade added.
"What's wrong with Disney? They put out Pirates of the Caribbean didn't they? That movie that was the bomb, I can't wait til the sequel comes out." Amber answered.
Sabrina sat back and watched the interactions going on around her. Wade, Amber, Justin, and Joey were all talking about the movie while Melody basically sat there and glared at everyone.
Watching Joey interact with her friends made her heart warm. He was very attentive and was genuinely interested in what they had to say. What made her want to cry was the way he checked on Melody every few minutes to make sure she was doing okay. Oh how she longed for someone to look at her like that, to make sure she was okay. She glanced at Melody and found her sisters glare directed at her.
Not backing down, Sabrina met her stare head on as if accepting her challenge.
Wade witnessed this and nudged Sabrina, warning to knock if off before something got started.
Sabrina looked at Wade and stuck her tongue out at him.
That's mature." he chuckled.
"I know right." Sabrina nodded. "I'll be right back, I need to pee."
"Did we need to know that?" Justin asked.
"Yes." Sabrina nodded standing up. She walked over to Amber and whispered for hear ears alone.
"Do you have any tampons in your purse?"
"Yes why?" Amber asked knowing Sabrina didn't need one.
"When I'm done, hand me one. If she gets up and follows me, I want you to wait a minute and come. I know she's going to throw a fit."
"Okay."
"Now hand me one." Sabrina said.
"Here you are sweetie." Amber said loudly for everyone to hear.
"Thanks doll." Sabrina said kissing her cheek.
If anybody suspected their ploy, they didn't say anything as she started to leave.
"Hurry back." Wade said playing the 'date' roll.
"I will." She smiled and waved her hand.
Sabrina went to the bathroom and just knew that Melody would follow her to terrorize her. She went into the stall and closed the door. She sat there for a few minutes then flushed the toilet and washed her hands.
As she was lathering her soap, Melody burst through the door and was already on her case.
"What are you doing here?" Melody demanded.
"I'm on a date, same as you." Sabrina answered.
"Don't play games with me honey. Don't you think it's a little coincidence that we go on a date the same day that you find out about us getting back together?" Melody stared at her, crossing her arms over her chest.
"If I understood what you said, which made no sense. I did not know you were going to be here, Wade said we were going out with some friends. He didn't say 'we're going out with my friend and your sister'. You need to get over yourself once and for all." Sabrina spoke softly looking at her sister.
"What am I missing?" Amber said sweeping into the room as if she owned the place.
"Nothing. Melody was just on her usual 'its all about me' power trip. She doesn't realize that there are other people besides herself or that those other people have feelings." Sabrina answered.
"Lovely." Amber smiled trying to lighten the mood.
"Blah, blah, blah." Melody rolled her eyes mocking her sister.
"Why are you always so rude to your own sister? Your twin at that." Amber asked Melody who was studying her fingernails looking bored.
"I don't have to justify myself to you." Melody chided glancing at Amber.
"Meaning you have no reason, you just do." Amber nodded.
"I have my reasons." Melody scowled.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night. Come on Sabby, lets go back to civilization." Amber said threading her arm through Sabrina's.
"Thank you." Sabrina said after they'd left the bathroom.
"You're welcome. It's about time someone knocks that bitch down a notch or two. I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful in anyway toward you, but man." Amber said making a gesture with her hands that appeared to choke something invisible in front of her.
"Trust me, no worries." Sabrina smiled and quickly hugged her friend.
"You survived." Wade said spotting her.
"Of course, why wouldn't I? I can handle my own sister." Sabrina answered sitting down.
"Your drink m'lady." Wade said pointing to her mug.
"Mmm." She said after taking a sip.
"What did you get again?" Wade asked.
"White Russian Latte." she answered taking another drink.
Sabrina held up a finger in his direction and noted Joey was sitting alone waiting for Melody. She turned to him and gently placed a hand on his arm.
He turned to her and gave her his full attention. Sabrina looked in his eyes and nearly forgot what she was going to say. Wade nudged her and she mentally shook her head.
"I'd like to apologize for Melody. To be honest, she's not a nice person. She thinks of no one but herself. That's the reason you didn't know about me, that's why I didn't tell you who I was last night. It's too painful to give the whole speech to someone I'll never see again. And for that, I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I never meant to mislead you in any way." Sabrina told him sincerely, unshed tears glistening in her eyes.
Joey's hand involuntarily went up to softly brush her face and he dropped it when he realized what he'd done. "Don't worry about it. You're forgiven, I know Melody can be rude."
Sabrina smiled and wiped her leaky eyes. "Thank you."
Joey smiled and nodded. He found he couldn't help but want to hug her. He balled his hands into fists and forced his mind off that subject. He felt a pang of unwanted jealousy when Sabrina lay her head on Wades shoulder. He saw the look on Wade's face and knew him well enough to know that look was to say 'we'll talk later'.
Melody came back from the bathroom and they all kind of sat there in silence, drinking their coffee.
"Glad I got decaf." Sabrina said yawning.
"You have to be up tomorrow?" Wade asked pretending not to know.
"Yeah, I have to go to work at noon and I have other things to do before then." Sabrina answered.
"We should probably get going." Wade suggested.
"Yeah." Sabrina nodded.
"Are you guys ready?" Wade asked Justin and Amber who were looking cozy. Justin had his arm wrapped around her, holding her close to him.
"Absolutely." Justin nodded.
"Well this has been fun." Sabrina said standing up.
"It has. It was nice to meet you." Joey said shaking her hand softly adding a wink as Melody couldn't see.
"You too." she smiled graciously.
"Nice to meet you too Amber." Joey said extending his hand to Amber.
Everyone else knew each other so no other 'nice to meet you's' were needed. They all bid adieu and went their separate ways. Justin, Amber, Wade, and Sabrina headed back to Sabrina's to drop her off while Joey and Melody went their own way.
"Tonight was fun." Wade said as he walked Sabrina to her door.
"Stressful." Sabrina corrected him.
"I had fun. By the way, I was really impressed with your speech to Joey." Wade smiled.
"Thank you." Sabrina nodded then stifled a yawn.
"Okay, you go to bed hon." Wade said backing down a step.
"Goodnight Wade." She said kissing his cheek.
"Night Sabby." Wade smiled.
Sabrina watched him get into his vehicle and drove off. She went in and immediately went to bed and fell fast asleep after the days stressful yet fun activities.
