Chapter 2

A peaceful silence fell across the room as a young woman lay sleeping, unaware of the storm that was brewing across town. Last night she had danced with passion, with abandonment, with a man she could learn to love. A man who had once belonged to her sister.

The shrill sound of a ringing telephone interrupted the peaceful silence and disturbed the dreaming young woman.

Sabrina looked at the clock and groaned, it's bright green numbers read 8:30. She grabbed the phone, cleared her throat, and answered. "Hello."

"Hello sister dearest." the cold voice answered.

"What do you want Melody?" Sabrina asked sitting up.

"Thank hard, think real hard."

"It's 8:30am, I didn't get much sleep night. I don't want to play your stupid little games." Sabrina said getting to the point.

"I heard you met Joseph."

"Who?" Sabrina asked.

"Don't play coy with me sweetie. You know who I'm talking about. He told me all about it, said I was different, said he wanted to get back together with me. He liked the new me. Just your luck, I said yes. I was looking for a new beau and he'll do nicely. Just think how shocked he'll be when he finds out I'm the same old me. I'm not sure if I should thank you, or be really pissed."

"Are you about finished?" Sabrina asked rolling her eyes.

"Don't you have anything to say for yourself? You practically pretended to be me." Melody asked.

"I have nothing to say to you. Think about it for a minute Mel. You never tell any of your friends about me. What would you do in my place? Would you explain to everyone why nobody knows you exist, or would you save yourself the pain and just ignore it. I never pretended to be you, I just didn't tell him the truth."

Melody opened her mouth to say something, but Sabrina cut her off.

"I feel real sorry for him. Don't bother calling me again just to throw false accusations in my face that you know nothing about. Good day." Sabrina hung up the phone feeling irritated.

"How DARE she accuse me of impersonation. She knew nothing about it." Sabrina muttered as she hopped out of bed and headed into the kitchen, Pumpkin hot on her trail.

"Hey sweetie." she said picking her up. "What should we eat?"

Pumpkin licked her face and snorted her nose sauce all over as she got excited at the word food.

"You're crazy mama." Sabrina laughed setting her down. Mama was one of the many nicknames that Pumpkin had received throughout her days.

Sabrina wasn't a morning person, but she had a problem falling back asleep once she was up for more than a few minutes.

"Pumpkin, what am I going to do about her?" Sabrina asked thinking back on her talk with Melody.

Without an answer, she decided on a big breakfast of eggs, sausage links, and pancakes.

She started making the pancake batter when she decided to invite Amber over. She could really use someone to talk to other then Pumpkin.

Picking up the phone, she dialed the familiar number and waited for Amber to pick up. To her surprise, the very masculine voice that answered the phone was not Amber at all.

"Hello?"

"I'm sorry, is Amber there?" Sabrina asked.

"Let me get her." the man answered.

Sabrina quietly chuckled and heard lots of noises in the background, the sounds of rustling to get the phone handed to Amber. There was a loud bang and a string of profanities as Amber got on the line.

"Son of a mother, that hurt." Amber groaned. "Hello?"

"Issues Am?" Sabrina laughed.

"Shut up. Why are you calling me at this ungodly hour?" she groaned then stifled a yawn.

"I"m inviting you over for breakfast. Well, I was before I realized you had company. Who was that anyway?"

"Your boss and his friend Justin. Wade drank too much and couldn't make it home and Justin was even worse so I offered to drive them home and on our way they both passed out so I brought them here." Amber explained.

"Sounds like loads of fun," Sabrina laughed.

"For you maybe." Amber grumbled.

"Would you like to come over?" Sabrina offered again.

"What about these yahoo's?" Amber asked of her two guests.

"Either offer to take them home or bring them over. Up to you." Sabrina answered.

"Wade!" Amber yelled.

"My goodness Amber, my ear." Wade rubbed the ear that was right next to Amber.

"Sorry, didn't know you were there." Amber laughed. "Do you want to go home now or do you want to go to Sabby's for breakfast?"

"What she makin?" Wade asked.

"He wants to know what you're making." Amber said into the phone.

"Pancakes, eggs, and sausage links." Sabrina answered.

"She's having pancakes, eggs, and sausage." Amber relayed the message.

"I'm there." Wade nodded.

"Justin?" Amber asked him.

"Sounds good to me." Justin nodded.

"We're coming over." Amber told Sabrina.

"Alright, I'll make more." Sabrina nodded.

"Well, I suppose we should get going. We'll see you in a few minutes." Amber bid adieu before hanging up.

Sabrina hung up the phone and proceeded to double her batch of pancake mix. Sabrina usually bought food in bulk so she wouldn't have to buy groceries often.

She went to her small deep freeze and pulled out a box of sausage links. She pulled out a full row, and set as many as she could on her little griddle.

"It's way too quiet in here." she said hearing nothing but silence and the sound of meat sizzling.

She went over to her stereo, turned on her Life CD by Andy Hunter, and cranked up the volume. She knew Amber would just walk in so it wouldn't mater if she couldn't hear the doorbell or a knock.

She danced around her kitchen as she flipped thee links and broke a dozen eggs into a big bowl, stirring them with a fork, scrambling them around.

Sabrina knew her guests had arrived when Pumpkin started barking like crazy.

"You're dog is psychotic." Amber said holding Pumpkin who was licking her face and saucing all over.

"A killer is more like it." Wade chuckled.

Pumpkin started barking at Wade and Justin as she desperately struggled to get down.

"Mama stop." Sabrina told her.

"Hey girl." Wade greeted giving her a side hug.

"Hey Wade, drink much last night?" Sabrina teased.

"I was fine, I would have driven. Amber wasn't completely truthful on the phone. It was Joey that kinda left us there and we were going to take a taxi, but Amber volunteered to take us home." Wade explained.

"Whatever, its the same thing I said. You weren't fit to go yourself. You would have passed out in the taxi, and then where would you be." Amber reminded him.

"You're not Melody are you?" Justin asked making his presence known.

Sabrina's whole body tensed at that question and realized her identity was out of the bag.

"Does this look like Hells Mells?" Wade asked putting an arm around her shoulders.

"Yeah." Justin nodded.

"Well stand this little gal next to the real one, and you'll see they don't." Wade smiled.

"Sabrina Jensen, Melody's invisible unknown twin sister." Sabrina said awkwardly sticking out her hand.

Justin shook her hand and stared at her unsure if he should feel offended that she'd lied to them last night, or understanding because he knew how Melody could be.

"That was you last night right?" Justin asked to make sure.

"Yes, I'm sorry I couldn't tell you who I really was." Sabrina said before getting back to cooking.

"Need any help?" Amber asked standing at the counter.

"You can set the table if you want." Sabrina nodded.

"I can do that." Amber smiled.

To be honest, Amber hated cooking. She volunteered to be polite, knowing that Sabrina would assign her a task that didn't involve cooking.

"Who is this?" Justin asked feeling the awesome dance beats.

"Andy Hunter." Sabrina answered.

"Never heard of him." Justin shrugged.

"Justin you're in charge of the sausage, Wade, you take the eggs, and I'll look after these." Sabrina said taking charge and putting her guests to work.

"Yes ma'am." Justin and Wade both answered and went about their assigned tasks.

About ten minutes later, they were adding plates to the table. There was a heaping plate of sausage links, a steaming bowl of scrambled eggs, and in the middle of it all was a stack of golden pancakes.

"This looks amazing." Wade said practically drooling.

"It smells heavenly." Sabrina agreed. "Amber would you do the honors?"

Sabrina put her hands out and waited for the guys to take them and when all hands were joined, Amber led them in a prayer.

"Dear God, thank you for good food, good health, and good friends. Amen."

"Thank you Amber." Sabrina said grabbing the bowl of eggs sitting in front of her.

"Can I ask questions about you and Melody?" Justin asked not wanting to offend her in anyway.

"You may. Don't be offended if I get mad or refrain from answering." Justin warned.

"What's the deal with you two?" Justin asked handing her the sausage links.

"She hates me. As far as she's concerned, she's an only child." Sabrina shrugged.

"If it makes you feel any better, none of us ever really liked her. We could see right through her the moment we met her, but for some reason Joey couldn't see it until the end. He was with her for about six months before he finally caught on." Justin rolled his eyes at the memory.

"I received some rather disturbing news this morning." Sabrina said drawing a breath. "Joey called Melody this morning and wanted to get back together with her and she agreed."

"What? Since when did he want her back?" Justin paused.

Sabrina felt a blush crawling up her face as she carefully thought out her answer.

"Since he saw her last night and she was different." She said a few moments later.

"You have to tell him." Justin demanded.

"I'm not telling him anything." Sabrina shook her head.

"Why not?" Justin asked.

"I don't have to, nor do I want to. Do you have ANY idea what it's like to explain why you don't exist ? Why nobody knows about you? Spend a day in my shoes and you'll see why I'm not telling him. As soon as he sees her again and is with her, he'll know she's the same and he'll dump her again end of story." Sabrina answered feeling anger building up inside.

"I'm sorry." Justin stated sincerely. He could see the pain clearly written on her face.

"It's not your fault. If I had the courage to tell him, but I can't. I don't want the pain that comes with it. I know I should have told you all last night, but I never expected to see either of you again and I told Joey not to call me." Sabrina finished.

"Well your secrets are safe with me." Justin assured him.

"Thank you. I still don't expect to see him again." Sabrina shrugged.

"Don't be surprised if you do." Wade answered.

"Do you know something I don't?" Sabrina looked at him with suspicion.

"Well think about it Sabby, your sister is dating him and he's one of my best friends." Wade reasoned.

"For one I won't see him because of mel. I never see her and I haven't seen any of them until now so why would I start."

"She has a point Wadey boy." Amber added.

"What the heck did you just call me?" Wade looked at Amber.

"You heard me." Amber challenged.

Wade didn't say anything, he just cut her off with a hand in her face.

"Man I'm stuffed." Justin said sitting back in his chair. "You're a good cook Sabrina."

"Hey you all helped." Sabrina reminded him.

"Not really." Wade added shaking his head.

"What are y'all doing today?" Amber asked.

"I have homework to do and then go into the studio and get ready for tomorrow's sessions." Sabrina answered.

"Who do you have tomorrow? It's Sunday." Wade asked.

Normally the studio was closed on Sundays, it was rare to be open on a Sunday.

"I have the cheerleaders at noon and then at three I have Sara and Stacy coming in."

"Why?"

"The cheerleaders go compete next Saturday and are getting nervous so they requested extra time. They're coming in everyday this week. Sara and Stacy are coming in to dance. They just want to learn more and get more practice. They've got a lot of talent. They won't be around long, they'll audition for backup dancers and get it." Sabrina answered.

"I'll keep that in mind." Wade nodded.

"Are you choreographing a tour?" Sabrina questioned sensing there was something she wasn't telling her.

"Not that I know of." Wade answered with a shake of the head.

"When is Nsync going to get going again?" Amber asked of Justin changing the subject.

"That's a good question. We're actually having a meeting with Johnny and the label on Monday. Reckon we'll know things after that. Everyone's a little anxious to get going again. You tour pretty much nonstop for six years then quit cold turkey for a few more years and you really start to crave it after a while." Justin answered.

"I bet." Amber nodded.

There was a moment of silence before Justin's cell rang interrupting them.

"Hello?"

"Hey Justin, what's up?"

"Hey Joey. I'm just chillin with Wade, Amber, and her friend. Sup with you?" Justin asked catching the look of panic with a hint of longing on Sabrina's face before she quickly hid it.

"I'm just sitting at home. How did you get home last night?" Joey wondered knowing he'd left them.

"We were going to take a cab, but Amber offered to take us so we did and its a good thing because we ended up passing out in the car." Justin answered.

"You sly dog." Joey laughed.

"It wasn't anything like that freak." Justin said feeling a blush creep up his face.

"Whatever you say." Joey chuckled. "Don't jump down my throat or kick my ass, but I hooked up with Melody again."

"Really? Why?" Justin asked pretending to sound surprised.

"Last night was just amazing. I felt like I connected with her on a whole new level." Joey explained.

Justin looked at Sabrina who was trying to look busy and keep her mind of his conversation. It was obvious that he returned his feelings--the feelings he thought he had for her sister. What a mess.

"Hello? Justin?" Joey's voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Sorry Joe, I zoned out for a moment. What makes you think she was different, she looked the same to me." Justin answered looking at Sabrina shaking his head.

"I hate her." Sabrina whispered rolling her eyes.

"Everything about her. Her attitude, the way she carried herself, her personality. She was the girl I always dreamed she would be."

"Wow, that's intense. What if it wasn't her." Justin suggested ignoring the glare Sabrina was shooting him.

"Don't you dare." Sabrina threatened getting angry.

"I won't." Justin mouthed.

"You're smoking something good J. It was her. I know it was, she's an only child and she knew me." Joey pressed.

"Well, I hope everything works out Joe. I want you to know, if she isn't different, you aren't obligated to say with her. If she turns out to be the bitch we all know and hate, dump her again."

"I'll keep that in mind Justin. Thanks for the um, advice."

"I do what I can. What are you doing tonight?" Justin asked.

"We're actually going to the movies. We're going to see Narnia."

"No way, I'm taking someone tonight too. Maybe we could meet up there and go on a double." Justin suggested, a plan formulating in his mind.

"Sure, that'd be cool." Joey agreed.

"What time?"

"The seven-thirty show."

"All right, I'll see you then, but listen I've gotta get going. Thanks for calling." Justin said.

"See you tonight J." Joey answered.

Justin flipped his phone shut and looked at Sabrina then asked, "What are you doing tonight?"
