A Heart Desire
Chapter 9

“Are you hungry?” Liz asked me as we looked around in a store on Sunset. “I’m hungry.”

“Yeah, I guess.” I said, not really caring.

Liz put her hand on her hip and cocked her head to the side with a smirk. “Girl, what’s wrong?”

“Huh?” I looked at my friend and my head. “Nothing.”

“Don’t give me that. You have been out of it all day. If shopping hasn’t snapped you out of your thoughts then something is definitely is bothering you.”

I gave Liz a reassuring smile. “Nothing is bothering me. I’m fine, really.”

“Have you called Jonathan?”

“Who?”

“Jonathan YOUR BOYFRIEND.”

It took a second, but he came to my mind. “OH! Jonathan!”

“Yeah, Jonathan. Your boyfriend.” Liz shook her head with a small smirk. “Have you called him? Has he called you?”

I sighed. “I called him Saturday night, but hasn’t returned my call. I figured he’s busy working.” We turned to walk out the store and notice paparazzi cameras watching across the street. “I wonder what famous person is around here?”

Liz looked around. “I don’t see anyone. Hey, maybe it’s you.”

“Please don’t joke around like that.”

“What you don’t want to be famous? You are somebody’s daughter.”

“Please don’t remind me.”

Liz shook her head. “I just don’t get you.” We began walking down the sidewalk, when all of sudden, someone came up behind us and put his arms around our shoulders. We both jumped and turned to see Justin with a big grin on his face.

“Well isn’t this a small world! I knew we’d see each other again!” said Justin.

I gave him an annoyed look. “You live like fifteen minutes away from my parent’s house.”

“Yeah, well…you know what I mean.” Justin smiled at Liz. “So how are you doing? How do you like LA?”

“I love LA.” She said with a smile as she raised-up her shopping bags.

“Looks like someone has done a lot of shopping? Did you buy me anything?”

“I only buy for my best friends.”

Justin gasped, and acted hurt. “That hurts. Are we’re saying we’re not best friends?!”

I shielded my face as the paparazzi took our picture. “CAN WE GO, PLEASE?” I asked both Liz and Justin.

Justin turned from talking to Liz to me. “Girl, you have to learn to relax.” He put his arm around my neck again and pulled me along with him and Liz. “Are you girls hungry?”

“No,” I said.

“Yes,” said Liz.

I looked over at Liz. “We can get something to eat at home.”

“You are such a party pooper.”

“I am not. It’s just…”

Liz looked at Justin. “She’s a party pooper.”

“I am not!” I said again. “I’m just not hungry. Why don’t you guys go on and get something to eat and I’ll go on home.”

“Are you sure?” asked Liz.

I nodded. “I’m sure. You guys go have fun.”

Justin looked around noticing a few paparazzi still following them. “Let me walk you to your car.”

“No, its okay, I’ll be fine.” I smiled. “My car is just down the street. I’ll see you later.” I walked away. “Don’t make any headlines!” I said over my shoulders with wave. Both Liz and Justin laughed and started walking in the opposite direction.
