Liz smoothed out her dress and done up the straps of her heels. She then
looked up into the full length mirror at me. “Adrienne, you can’t
wear that to the party.”
I looked down at myself and shrugged off my appearance. I was wearing jeans,
a t-shirt and tennis shoes. “Why not?” I asked. “I’m
going. That’s all that matters.”
Liz rolled her eyes to herself and walked over to her suitcase. She opened
it and pulled out a simple blue spaghetti strapped dress. She tossed it to
me. “Wear that. It will look cute on you.”
“If I wanted to wear a dress I would have packed one.”
“Fine be that way.” Liz snatched her dressed back and tossed it
onto her bed. “I try to be nice but no.” I chuckled softly.
A knock came at the door and Annie peeked her head in. “Adrienne, Mom
wants-” she stopped short when she saw what I was wearing. She walked
into the room. “Adrienne, please tell me you’re not wearing THAT
to MY PARTY?”
Liz put her hands on her hips and looked at me up and down. “She is.”
"Okay look, since when does what you wear to a party matter?" I snapped.
"Since forever!" They said in unison.
"...Annie what did Mom want?" I asked avoiding the previous topic, although it was amusing I knew it wasn't good to waste Mom's time.
“She wanted to know if you girls wanted Ted to your hair.”
“No, I’m good,” I said nonchalantly.
Annie groaned in frustration and stomped her feet. “Adrienne, I won’t let you embarrass me at my party!”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Annie, who is going to be looking at me? All eyes are going to be on you and Allison.”
She pointed her finger at me. “If you embarrass me tonight…I’ll kill you in your sleep.”
I hide my smile and looked serious at the problem. “Okay.” Annie stormed out of the room and I turned to Liz. “Ohh, I’m scared.”
Liz shook her head and laughed. “You’re horrible.” She walked to the door. “Well, if you don’t MIND, I’m going to have Ted do my hair.”
“Go for it.” I followed Liz out before going to the kitchen. I hadn’t gotten to eat anything earlier and I was hungry. I started rooting through the kitchen to see what I could find to eat. I ended up making a sandwich and eating at the table.
Thirty minutes later, my sisters walked in. They were dress and ready to go. With my mouth full, I gave them a small wave.
Annie gestured to me. “See? What did I tell you? Total slob.”
“Adrienne, you can’t go to the party dressed like that,” said Amber.
“Watch me,” I answered with a mouth full of food. “What’s the big deal anyway? No one will be looking at me.”
“Adrienne,” Alex said with a calm voice. I ignored my sister and turned back to my sandwich.
“UGH! DADDY!” yelled Allison.
Hector walked in, hanging up his cell phone. “What is it Princess?”
“Daddy, Adrienne is dress like a slob!”
Annie nodded. “She can’t show up at our party dressed like that. She’s going to embarrass us!”
My Dad turned to me and gave me a smile. “Adrienne, honey, wouldn’t you feel more comfortable in a dress?”
I looked at Annie and Allison, and then turned back to my Dad. I turned on my charm. “Daddy, you know me, I hate dressing up. Please don’t make me suffer all night in a dress I won’t feel comfortable in and heels that will kill my feet.” I gave my Dad a sad face.
He gave me a smile. He didn’t have the heart to tell me to change. He was still so happy that I was home. “Okay.” He looked at Annie and Allison. “Let your sister wear what she wants to wear. If she doesn’t want to dress up, she doesn’t have to.”
“But DADDY!” yelled Annie and Allison. He ignored them and left the kitchen.
Annie put her hands on her hips and glared at me. “You better not embarrass us tonight.”
I wiped my mouth with my hand and smiled at my sisters. “I won’t.”
“UGH!” both Annie and Allison said in frustration and left the kitchen.
Alex and Amber just laugh, and Amber said, “You’re not really going to party dressed like that are you?”
I nodded, standing up. “Yeah, when do we leave?”
