“Are you sure you’re related to those girls back there?” Liz asked me as she followed me into the kitchen to get something to eat.
“Why?” I questioned with a slight smirk tugging on my lips
Liz leaned against the counter. “Annie and Allison seem so much, um, fun and you are so…” she gestured towards me “not.”
“Ha ha,” I said sarcastically.
“I’m just saying it won’t hurt you to loosen up a little. Since I’ve met you…you’ve never really been…well happy.”
“I’m happy.”
“Are you?”
I looked at Liz, and then turned away when Amber and Alex walked into the kitchen talking and laughing. When they saw me they screamed out, “Adrienne!” and ran over to me, hugged me, and started screaming questions at me.
“Whoa, one at a time,” I said a laugh.
Amber smiled at me. “Adrienne, you haven’t changed one bit.”
“We tried calling you on your birthday,” said Alex “but you never answered.”
I smiled. “Yeah, I know. I got your message. I was out with my friends.”
“Are you still dating Jonathan?” asked Amber. She looked around. “Is he here?”
I chuckled. “No he’s not here and yeah, we’re still together.” I turned back to Liz and gestured to her. “This is my best friend and roommate Liz.”
“I remember you mentioning her name.” Amber reached her hand out and shook Liz hand. “It’s nice meeting you.”
“You two,” said Liz.
“Are you two coming to the party tonight?” Alex asked both me and Liz.
I nodded. “That’s why we came.”
“Good. The party won’t be the same without you there, Casper. Did Mom tell you Ashley and April won’t be making it?”
“Yeah, she said they’re in Europe for the summer?”
Amber nodded. “They’re visiting some friends. Does Dad know you’re here?”
“No.” I glanced back. “Is he here?”
“Yeah, he’s around here somewhere. We just got back from the studio.”
“I heard you girls are recording an album,” said Liz with a smile. “How’s it coming along?”
“Great!” said Alex with a bright smile that scratched across her face. “We’re having so much fun working in the studio, and we couldn’t be any happier working with our Dad.”
I smiled hearing Alex and left the kitchen with my sisters talking to Liz to find my Dad in the family room speaking to my Mom about my sisters’ party tonight. With my Dad’s back facing me, I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms from behind around his neck. “Hi Daddy.”
Hearing my voice, he quickly turned around and gave me a tight hug. “Adrienne, sweetie, you’re home. I thought you weren’t coming?”
“Jonathan talked me into coming.”
“I knew I liked that boy.” I laughed. “How long are you staying for?”
“A week.”
His eyes widen remembering Allison had taken my room. “Your room. Sweetie, I’m-”
“Daddy, it’s okay. I’m staying in Ashley and April’s room.”
“Are you sure you’re okay with that? I can tell Allison to stay in Ashley and April’s room for just this week.”
“No, that not necessary.”
“Are you sure? I hate the fact that you don’t have a room anymore when you come home.”
“It’s okay.” I gave my Dad a reassuring smile.
“Adrienne, do you have something to wear tonight?” asked my Mom.
I nodded. “I brought something from home. It’s nothing fancy, but-”
Before I could finish Lynette the lady who was hired to design my sisters dresses for the party walked in carrying the dresses. Each dress was designed beautifully and specifically to fit their personality.
“Oh, Lynette the girls are going to love their dresses,” said my Mom as she walked over to Lynette.
“I hope so.” Lynette smiled.
“Girls!” my Mom called out. “Your dresses are here!”
Within minutes my sisters came running into the family room screaming excitedly. Liz walked over to me with a smirk. “We may want to rethink our jeans for tonight.”
We looked at each other and laughed before leaving the room.
