A Heart Desire
Chapter 10

“I’m home if anyone cares!” I called out as I walked into the house. I closed the door behind me and went upstairs to take a shower. When I turned the corner to my room, I was surprised to see JC coming out of my room.

I must have given him an odd look, because he hastily said, “Your Mom said I could come up. I was looking for my shirt Ashley borrowed last month. You haven’t by chance seen it have you?”

I raised an eyebrow with a smirk. “A shirt, huh?” I walked past him into my room. “What does it look like?”

JC followed me into the room. “It’s white with black and red wording on it.”

While messing with my stuff, I asked, “Have you checked in Ashley’s closet?”

“I did, I didn’t find it.”

“How about April’s?”

“Yeah.”

“I won’t be surprise if she took it with her.” JC let out a frustrated sigh, and I turned to him. “Word to the wise, don’t loan anything of yours to Ashley if you want it back.”

He ran his hand through his hair and rubbed the back of his neck. “That’s just it. I didn’t loan it to Ashley. She took it when I wasn’t looking.”

I smirked with sarcasm. “Oh well, what can I say? She’s that type of girl. I have to say, I was surprised to hear you were dating my sister. I didn’t think she was your type.”

“So who would be my type then?”

I stopped for a moment and stared at him and he stared at me. I read in his eyes that he wanted me to answer his question, say him, say something, but I just couldn’t.

So many thoughts rushed through my head, which at the time I couldn’t grasp. It was only JC who could make me feel this way. Lost for words and can’t speak. I felt like he puts me under a spell, in a trace or something. Finally, I found my voice again. It was shaky, but I forced out the words. “You should go.”

He just nodded and turned and left my room. He didn’t say a word as he left.

Finding myself all alone in my room, I sat down on my bed for just a moment, and then grabbed my purse and left. I didn’t know where I was going or where I might end up, but I knew I had to get out of the house. I got into my sister’s car and took off. I got the highway and hit eighty. I was speeding, but I could have cared less.

I made it to the center of town after the sun had gone down and drove pass a club that had a long line outside the door. A few paparazzi cameras lingered outside the club, but I push them to the back of my mind. I made a sharp u-turn in the middle of the street almost causing a minor accident and drove up to the front door of the club and parked.

I had everyone’s attention, which didn’t phase me. My mind was elsewhere. I stepped out of my car and walked straight up to the bouncer at the door. The people in line gave me dirty looks and the paparazzi wondered who I was.

I whispered in the bouncer’s ear and he gave me an once-over, smiled and opened he door for me to go in. When I walked into the club, the night was young and I was thirsty.
