Forbidden Love
Chapter 9

“Heads up.” I closed my locker and turned to my sisters Amber and Alex, they gestured behind me and I turned around to see Mark Daly walking up to me with his friends Brent and Carlos. I adjusted the strap to my backpack on my shoulder and smiled kindly at Mark. “Hi, Mark.”

“Hey.” He leaned his shoulder against the lockers and put his hands in his pants pockets. “Did you know my step Mom knows your Mom?” Mark looked at me and at my sisters. He smiled.

“She does?” I said.

He nodded. “She’s known your family for quite awhile.”

I glanced over my shoulder at my sisters. “What’s her name?”

“Susan.”

Amber and Alex glanced at one another and Amber said, “The only Susan we know is Susan Anthony.”

He nodded. “That’s my step Mom. Anthony is her median name.” We laughed and Mark just smiled at me. “I heard from Rachel that today is your last day of your grounding.”

I nodded with a smile. “Yeah.”

“Do you want to celebrate your freedom by hanging out with me and friends tomorrow? We’re going jet skiing at my Dad’s lake house.”

“Can I come?!” both Amber and Alex asked excitedly in unison. I whipped around and gave my sisters a dirty look.

Mark laughed. “Sure.”

I groaned inwardly and turned back to Mark. He smiled at me. “I have to go, but I’ll call you tonight.”

I opened my mouth to tell Mark I couldn’t go, but he turned and walked away. I turned back to my sister and hit them both. “How am I going to explains this to JC?”

“Oh come on Adrienne,” said Amber “it’s not a date. We’re just going to hang out and go jet skiing. It’s not like you and JC are going out tomorrow anyways.”

I narrowed my eyes at my sister. “Shut up, Amber.”

”Well it’s true. You can’t be seen with him public. You might as well go out and have fun.”

Alex nodded. “She’s right.”

I looked between my sisters. Amber was right. I finally nodded with a sigh. “Okay.”

An hour later, I walked through the front door of my house with April, Amber, Alex, Annie, and Allison arguing about what we wanted our Mom to cook for dinner.

Ashley walked into the foyer with JC. She put her hands on her hips and cleared her throat. We all turned to her. “Mom and Dad aren’t here.”

“Where’d they go?” asked Allison.

“They went out and won’t be back till late. Mom said we have to feed ourselves tonight.”

“I want pizza!” shouted Amber.

“No,” yelled Annie “I want McDonalds!”

“I want McDonalds too,” yelled Allison.

“We got McDonalds last time,” yelled Alex. “I want pizza!”

“I’m tired of pizza!” shouted April.

“Me too,” said Ashley. “No pizza!”

I sighed heavily and turned to JC. I rolled my eyes at him, and then turned back to my sisters. “While you girls decided what you want I’m going to go order me some Chinese.” I walked away to the kitchen.

The girls looked at each other. “Chinese sounds good,” said Alex. They nodded and ran to the kitchen.

JC chuckled softly to himself and walked to the kitchen. “It’s like living with The Brady Bunch, but with all girls.”
