Forbidden Love
Chapter 24

The last few weeks have been horrible and today wasn’t any better. It was the worst.

I walked into the house behind my Mom and I closed the door. She put her purse down along with her keys and then turned to me. “Go tell your father you’re home. He’s in his studio.”

I looked at my Mom, disappointment filled her eyes. “Can I still go to Amber’s and Alex’s party tomorrow?”

“You’re going to have to ask you’re father.” My Mom turned and walked away.

I watched my Mom disappear into the kitchen and I stood there in the foyer for a moment before I walked to Daddy’s studio. I knocked on the door and push it open, and walked in to see my Dad talking with JC. “I’m home.”

My Dad turned around in his chair. He looked at me, upset. “Adrienne, what am I going to do with you? Your principal gave you a choice to either tell the truth about your involvement in the classroom incident or get a month of detention, or to lie and get suspended from school for a week. You choose to lie and get suspended. Why? Do you know how that will look on your college application?”

My eyes moved to JC, we saw each other almost everyday but we ignore each other. We haven’t spoken since he told me I was better off without him. My Dad snapped his fingers, getting my attention.

“Adrienne, look at me. Sweetheart, I don’t know what to do with you. I don’t know what else to take away from you. You’re already grounded for a year. I have taken everything out of your room and if you think you’re going to your sisters’ party tomorrow think again.”

My eyes wondered back over to JC and my Dad’s eyes followed. He knew my mind was elsewhere. He sighed, knowing what he had to do. “Adrienne, look at me.” I turned back to him. “You’re Mom and I have been talking. If you still want to move back to Houston you can. You can live with your Aunt Lily.”

I looked at my Dad, my wish had come true but it had come true too late. “Really?” I asked, pretending to be excited.

He smiled, seeing me smile. “If that’s what you want.”

“I do.”

“Okay. Go tell your Mom.”

I gave a faint smile and walk up to my Dad and hugged him tight. “Thank you.”

“Don’t think just because your Mother and I won’t be there you can get away with murder.”

“I know.” I laughed.

My Dad rubbed my back warmly and pulled back from our hug. “Go tell your Mom the good news.” I nodded and the left the room.

Without looking up from what he was writing, JC said, “So you’re really letting her go?”

“It’s for the best.”

JC looked up finally and turned to Hector. “Yeah sometimes it is.”
