Forbidden Love
Chapter 18
I stood in front of JC’s home and waited. Waited for what I did not know. I had not rang the door bell or knocked so JC was not going to answer the door, but I could always wish it so I did not have to work up the courage to ring the door bell myself. I took a final deep breath and let it out slowly and rang the door bell. I waited for what seemed like eternity, but was probably only 5 minutes before JC opened the door. I gave him a small smile. “Hi.”
JC glanced over his right shoulder and stepped out and closed the door behind him. “Adrienne, right now is not a good time. I’m having a party.”
I made a face and turned to his driveway, and for the first time I notice several cars in the driveway and I could hear music coming from the back of the house. “Oh my gosh I did notice the cars or the music.”
“I’m not surprised.” I turned back to JC.
“JC,” I said “we need to talk.”
“Now?”
“No next Wednesday, yes NOW.” I rolled my eyes, upset.
“Why are you upset?” JC asked confused. “You have no right to be upset. You are the one who is cheating on her boyfriend.”
My jaw dropped. “How dare you accuse me of cheating on you!”
“Well Adrienne, what am I suppose to think when you spend all your time with Mark? I understand you had a project to do, but you started ignoring me. I know we have to act like we aren’t dating, but come on I mind as well been a piece of furniture in your house.”
“JC, I’m sorry I never meant to hurt you.”
He stared at me for a Moment, as if he was trying to read me. “Do you like him?”
I couldn’t lie. I nodded. “I’m sorry.”
“Me too. Bye, Adrienne.” JC turned and walked back inside and closed the door behind him.
I stood there stunned. It wasn’t supposed happen like this. I came to break up with JC. “JC, wait,” I said, stepping up to the door. I grew angry fast and kicked the door. “FUCK YOU, JC! YOU WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO BREAK UP WITH ME! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BREAK UP WITH YOU!” I kicked the door again and I then turned around and came face to face with Justin Timberlake. “What the hell are you looking at?” I asked him and then walked off.
Later that afternoon, I lied in my bedroom staring at my phone. I had wanted to call Mark, but something inside of me wouldn’t let me, so I laid there in bed wondering if maybe this feeling I was having was myself telling me I picked the wrong guy. Pushing past my negative feelings, I reached for the phone and picked it up and called Mark. On the third ring he answered. “Hi, it’s me.” I sat up in bed.
“Hey, how’s it going?”
“I could be doing better. What are you doing?”
“Just hanging out and watching TV. What about you?”
“Same.” I licked my lips nervously. “Mark, would you like to, uh….go out sometime?”
“What like on a date?”
“Yeah.” I chewed my bottom lip nervously.
“Adrienne, I’m seeing someone.” Suddenly I felt like someone sucked the oxygen out my room. I couldn’t breathe. “I thought you knew?”
“No,” I said, finding my voice.
“She’s a girl from school. I don’t know if you know her. Her name is Katie Carmine, she’s a cheerleader.”
Katie Carmine, probably the prettiest girl at our school. She was tall, blonde, blue eyed and loved to surf. She was a typical Californian. All the guys like her. “I know who she is.”
“Adrienne, I asked you out several times over the past two weeks and you always told me no. So I took the hint and moved on. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I think our relationship where is right now is perfect.”
“Me too.”
“Well I’m going to let you go. I’ll see you tomorrow at school.”
“Okay, bye.”
“Bye.” I hung the phone and lied back down. My bedroom door opened and Amber walked in. She smiled at me, but her smile faded when she saw tears rolling down my cheeks.
“Adrienne, what’s wrong?” she asked worriedly.
“Mark is seeing someone.”
