Forbidden Love
Chapter 16
I looked around our kitchen table and cleared my throat to get everyone’s attention. It worked and I stood up. “As you all know our art project were due today at school.”
“Yeah and…?” said Allison.
Alex and Amber smiled at me. I smiled back and held up several pamphlets to art museums in New York. My Mom screamed in excitement and clapped her hands. I laughed. “Mrs. Gates said for the past ten years she’s been assigning this project, but only a hand full of students have done a dance. She didn’t think this year it was going happen because the type of students she had. Mark and I surprised her. Everyone loved us.”
“Well congratulations.” My Dad smiled. “Have you called Wade and told him the good news?”
“No, Mark and I are going over to his studio tomorrow and going to surprise him.”
“Well you guys worked hard. You deserve that trip. When is it?”
“The week before we’re off for Thanksgiving break. I can go, right?”
“Of course,” said my Dad. “Do I need to sign a permission slip?”
“Yeah, Mrs. Gate gave me and Mark packages for our parents. You and Mom have to go through them and fill out everything.”
“Okay just give me the package and we’ll look through everything.” I stood up, ready to run to my room, but my Dad stopped me. “Not now. Finish your dinner first.” I nodded and sat back down.
“So now that this project is done, does that mean we won’t see Mark around the house anymore?” asked my Mom, she smiled at me.
I smiled. “I don’t know.”
The next day, Mark came by my house and we drove to Wade’s studio and gave him the good news and then spent the rest of day just hanging out. We went out to lunch and caught a movie, then went back to Mark’s place where we just talked and watched TV. I didn’t know at the time, but I think I fell for Mark when we were working on our project. Being with him just felt right. I could be myself with him and he could be himself with me and we didn’t have to sneak around. It was easy and uncomplicated.
My cell phone rang and I answered it, thinking it just one of my sisters. “What do you want?”
“Did I call at a bad time?” said JC.
“Oh, uh,” I looked at Mark; he was making us sandwiches two huge double-decker sandwiches. He flashed me a cheesy smile and I laughed. “I’m in the middle of something right now. Can I call you back?”
He sighed heavily into the phone. “All right. Later.”
I hung up the phone and walked over to Mark. “Do you expect me to eat that?” I asked, looking at the double-decker sandwich.
“You’ll love it trust me.” He picked up one of the sandwiches and gave it to me. “Trust me.”
“What’s in it?”
“You ask too many questions. Just take a bite.” I looked at the
sandwich and took a bite. “Good, right?” I nodded with my mouth
full. Mark laughed and picked up his sandwich and passed me my Coke and we
left the kitchen together.
