After You by AmyK
Chapter 6
"Dont do that." Dayna frowned and reached over to tuck it back in place. They had a photo shoot on the stage as soon as the arena was cleared and she didnt feel like touching up everyones hair at the last minute.
He ducked away before her hand reached him and laughed, "Is it Joey?"
"Is what Joey?"
"Is he why youre all pissy?" Chris asked, keeping his distance from her hands.
"Why would I be mad at Joey?"
"Because he grabs your ass all the time."
"Hes been doing that since I started, why would I be mad about that now?" Dayna gave him a look as she began to put her stuff away.
"I dont know, he said you slapped his this morning."
"I did." Dayna laughed, "Because we were goofing around and he accidentally grabbed a handful of breastage. Im not mad at Joey." Dayna shook her head.
"Then what?"
Daynas smile fell and she took a deep breath, "I dont know."
"Is it me?"
"No." She shook her head and dropped her brushes into her kit. "I dont it just sucks, I mean. Why cant JC be Lance?"
"Because that would be weird." Chris gave her a look of confusion and sat back down in the chair. "Why would things be better is JC was Lance? And if JC was Lance, who would Lance be?"
"JC."
"Who would I be?"
"Chris " She sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Youve officially lost me." He shook his head and smiled. "Whats going on?"
"Well, you know JCs got this thing for me or whatever."
"Yeah." Chris said, then he got it. "Oh I see. Youre not into the Jayster so you wish he was Lance, because Lance is dating Patty, then if JC was dating Patty hed leave you alone? Or something like that?"
Dayna zipped her bag shut and hoisted it over her shoulder, "Yeah, something like that." She headed for the door.
"Dayna Dayna bo bayna, banana fana "
"Stop stop stop." Dayna turned around to face Joey walking towards her down the hall.
"Where are you going?"
"Home."
"To New York?"
"To the bus." She explained.
"You consider the bus your home?" Joey laughed and shook his head.
Dayna sighed and shifted her bag to her other shoulder, "What do you want Joey?"
"Are you pissed?" He asked cautiously.
"No."
"Are you sure?" He asked. Dayna rolled her eyes and turned around to continue on her way out of the building. She wasnt in the mood to play twenty questions with Joey. "Time out." Joey ran after her and took the bag from her shoulder, "Youre not still cranky because I accidentally felt you up, are you?"
"Accidentally my ass." She frowned and took the bag back.
"Oh come on, we were wrestling around."
"Im not upset about that." She sighed.
"Then what?"
"Are you my therapist now?"
"No." Joey shook his head and held the door open for her. He took the bag off her shoulder again as they walked out, followed closely by the two security guards standing by the door. They walked over to the bus to the sound of screaming fans at the chain link fence, then shut the door to close out the noise.
"Lance is having Patty problems." Dayna took her sweater off and dropped it on the chair.
"And thats bad?"
"The problem hes having is that he loves her so much and he cant stand being away from her all the time."
"Oh."
"And I sat there and comforted him, and gave him advice practically. How lame is that? I consoled him and I cant stand the girl." She scowled and fell into the chair on top of her sweater.
"Ouch, when did you do that?"
"Before the show tonight." She sighed and pulled the scrunchie out of her hair, then tossed it toward the bunks. She ran her fingers through her hair and scratched her scalp; "I need help Joe, serious mental help."
"You need a man."
"I need to quit the tour and go find me one."
"There are plenty of men here on the tour you know." He winked at her and gave her his best flirty smile.
"Ha, I learned my lesson with Chris, never again."
"Then why are you stressed about Lance? If youd never date him I mean."
"Ugh, thats my problem. Thats why I need help. Liking Lance goes against everything I believe in."
"Everything?"
"You ask too many questions Joey." Dayna unbuttoned her blouse and pulled it off, then reached for her bag to pull a t-shirt out. She maneuvered her arms under the shirt and pulled her bra out through the armhole.
"I will never understand how girls do that." Joey shook his head.
"Magic." She grabbed her blouse and headed for the bunks, "Are we done bonding now? Can I go to sleep?"
"Yep, you can go to sleep." Joey nodded and pulled the door open again. "So whens Patty coming out?"
"Shut up Joey." Dayna shouted from the bunks. She smiled as she heard him laugh and slam the door behind him.
They drove through the night to Phoenix and checked into their hotel just before dawn. Dayna dropped her stuff in her tiny room then headed back downstairs to the ballroom where the guys would be arriving any minute. They had a live telecast scheduled that morning to help announce the nominees for the MTV music video awards and they had to look presentable.
Joey and Lance were the first ones to arrive, so Dayna got to work on them while she tried to stay awake. "How was your ride in?" Lance asked as he held his head straight for her.
"It was alright." Dayna nodded. "I didnt get much sleep, but thats to be expected on the bus."
"Ah, youre just not tired enough. I drag myself onto the bus and pass out. It doesnt matter if Im on the bunk, the couch or the floor. I close my eyes and dont open them until we stop somewhere." Lance laughed.
"Youre lucky. Maybe I should run a few laps around the arena before I go to bed, really tire myself out." Dayna smiled and tried not to let her fingers linger on his neck as she brushed the tiny hairs off.
"Patty runs three miles a day, and she sleeps like a log." Lance said with a dopey smile.
Joey looked up at Dayna and the mention of Pattys name, "Yeah, maybe you should run three miles a day." He smiled.
"Ha, right." Dayna scoffed and frowned quickly. What a way to start the morning. "Where are the other kids?"
"Chris rode over with the crew and I think JC said something about an over seas interview for him and Justin?" Lance shrugged.
"Sounds like fun." Dayna mumbled as she worked a light gel through Lances hair, then spiked it just a little.
"Do you still have that glitter stuff?" Joey asked as he poked around in her case.
"No glitter." Lance leaned forward leaving Daynas hands empty in midair.
"Not for you, for me." Joey pulled out a tube of the purple glitter hair mascara. "Can I use this?"
"Yeah, Ill do it in just a minute, let me finish up here." She grabbed Lances shoulder and pulled him back in the chair. She dried his hair and then quickly ran her fingers through it to give him what she imagined his bed head would look like.
"Why do you mess it up when youre done? It looked like this when I came in here." Lance laughed as he stood up. He leaned in closer to the mirror to inspect her handy work, "Only this stuff smells better."
"Which is exactly the point." Dayna smiled and watched as Lance headed for the door. It opened before he could reach it, and Chris rushed in with his shirt on inside out. "Nice." Dayna nodded at his attire and shook her head.
"Thanks Day." Lance said over his shoulder as he darted out the already open door.
"Anytime." Dayna tried not to stare as he left. "Youre late." She said to Chris.
"Yeah, I know." He was out of breath as he fell into the chair behind Dayna. Joey took his place in the styling chair and handed Dayna the tube of purple glitter.
"And your shirt is on inside out." She said softly.
Chris looked down at the faded front of his shirt and recognized the FuManSkeeto label, backwards, across his chest. "Its a uh, fashion statement."
Joey laughed in the chair as Dayna swiped the wand over the tips of his hair, "The hasty retreat fashion statement." He asked with a smirk.
"No, no hasty retreat." Chris shook his head. "I was racked out on the bus and no one came to get me."
"The crew was off the bus an hour ago." Dayna pointed out.
"Yeah, and no one woke me up to move. Reggie came to track me down like five minutes ago." Chris yawned. "I had thirty seconds to find my shirt, nevermind put it on."
"Its a good look." Dayna laughed and patted Joeys shoulder, "Youre done."
"I need some more over here." Joey reached for the tube.
"You look fine." Dayna held it out of his reach and gently pushed him out of the chair. "Go on, youve still gotta get your pretty clothes on."
"Im not pretty." Joey frowned and made another attempt to grab the tube.
Dayna dodged his hand carefully and frowned, "You can say that again."
"Doh!" Chris laughed.
"Yeah yeah, I see how you are." Joey laughed and left Dayna and Chris alone in the little room.
"So, do you have any more dates for me?" Chris smirked.
"Im working on it." Dayna said softly as she spritzed is hair with water. "
Their first show in Phoenix was uneventful so the guys got together with their band to talk about how they could spice it up a little the next night. They decided to cut out the extended mix at the end of the show to open up a few more "quiet" sessions where they could interact with the audience.
Dayna walked around the venue before the second show, looking at all the girls standing around by the snack bar and merchandise counters. Shed been on the look out for the last couple shows but so far had found nothing. She dropped her backstage pass down the front of her shirt and sighed as she leaned against the wall to rest her feet for a minute.
"Are you in line?" A young lady asked, nodding toward the ladies room to Daynas right.
"Oh, no." Dayna shook her head and smiled. "Go ahead."
"Here Krissy, go on in, Ill wait out here." The lady smiled as an excited pre-teen bounced into the bathroom. "Do you know if theres a long line in there?"
"I dont know, I havent been inside." Dayna shrugged, "Is that your sister?"
"No, shes one of my friends daughters. She didnt want to go with her mom, so I volunteered to take her." She laughed. "Im Felicia."
"Dayna." She shook her hand and tiled her head to the side. She was cute, and she looked over twenty-one. "That was nice of you to bring her."
Felicia shrugged, "Thats really just an excuse. I wanted to come, but I didnt want to go by myself and none of my friends would go with me, so this way we both get to go. Of course, Im almost 25 so Im probably one of the oldest fans here."
"Ahh, right on." Dayna laughed and nodded.
"How about you?"
"No, Im uh Im here by myself. And Im 25, so youre not the oldest." Dayna looked around at the crowd walking by.
"You must have awesome seats. I was talking to a girl in line outside who bought her ticket yesterday and she got floor seats. I guess if you only buy one you can get better seats."
"Yeah, its harder to find two seats together at the last minute, there are always single seats available." Dayna nodded.
"Have you been to a lot of shows?"
Dayna shrugged, "I guess." If youd call every show on the tour a lot, she thought to herself. "Actually, Im on the tour crew. Were going out clubbing tonight, do you want to come?" Dayna was rarely that open and quick with the whole "I know them" line, but she was getting desperate to find a date for Chris. She couldn't explain her compulsion, she just felt like she had to.
"Yeah right." Felicia rolled her eyes.
"Seriously." Dayna pulled her ID badge halfway out of her shirt and showed Felicia without making a scene.
"Are you for real?" Felicia frowned.
"Yeah, and I know this sounds weird and unbelievable, but Im serious." Dayna smiled, "You seem like a really cool person, and a lot more grounded than half the girls here. I figured youd know where to go, and youd have a great time with us."
"You mean us as in you and the guys?" Felicia asked softly.
"And a few of the crew probably." Dayna nodded.
"What if I dont believe you?"
Dayna checked her watch, they had another twenty minutes before the openers were supposed to go on, and the boys were most likely eating a quick dinner at the moment. "If you want to come right now we can go back and Ill introduce you."
"Yeah right." Felicia rolled her eyes as Krissy came out of the bathroom in the middle of a small pack of girls.
"Look! Its Danielle, Sari and Noelle! Theyre sitting right next to us." Krissy laughed as the three other pre-teens giggled around her.
"Cool." Felicia smiled at them, then looked at Dayna. "Well hey, why dont you guys go on down to the seats? Im going to go get some sodas, do you want anything?"
"Oh! Can you get me one of those glow stick things?"
"Those are like, eight bucks, and they die after a couple hours."
"Please??" Krissy pleaded as her friends spun theirs around.
"I can get you a couple." Dayna said softly.
"Okay." Felicia nodded and Krissy squealed as the four girls squealed with delight. "Ill be right back, go ahead to our seats and stay there. Dont go anywhere until I get back."
"I wont." Krissy rolled her eyes and turned back around to giggle with the girls.
"Lets go down this way." Dayna nodded toward the stairs leading to the floor level. They walked down and hopped over the little wall to the surprise of the guards standing there. Dayna flashed her badge and he backed off. Felicia was impressed, but still hesitant as Dayna led the way to the side of the stage where she leaned over the rail and shouted for Reggie.
"Miss Dayna, what are you doing out there?" Reggie asked with a deep laugh as he came around the side.
"Just doing crowd patrol." Dayna laughed. "This is my friend Felicia, can you let us through?"
"Does she have a guest pass?"
"No." Dayna crinkled her nose. "I dont get guest passes anymore, remember?"
"Yeah, and I think there was a reason for that." He raised his eyebrow at her, reminding her of past experiences when shed brought people back.
"Yeah yeah, so can we come back?"
"Sure thing. Theyre eating dinner though, so dont go buggin them." He pulled a stick on guest pass out of his pocket and handed it to Felicia.
"I know." Dayna nodded and they ducked under the barrier. "Hey, glow sticks. You got any?"
"Jeez, I give and I give." Reggie pulled two out of his coat pocket and handed them to Felicia.
"You rule Reg." Dayna blew kisses at him as she and Felicia as they headed away from the crowd.
"Youve gotta go out through the side exit, not through here." Reggie shouted after them as they made their way into the hallway. Dayna nodded and waved over her head, then looked both ways. She was all turned around and took a second to find her bearings.
Felicia followed silently as her stomach turned into knots, she hadnt believed Dayna and yet there she was walking around the backstage area with a guest pass stuck to the front of her shirt.
"The cafeterias over here, so let me look and see if anyones in there." Dayna shoved the door open and poked her head in to survey the crowd. Seeing Justin in the corner she waved him over, "Hey, wheres Chris?"
"Dunno, he hasnt been in for his grub yet. Patricks about ready to have a cow." Justin finished what was left in his Gatorade bottle and dropped it in the trash. "If you find him tell him he has to go eat." Justin brushed past her into the hall.
"I will." Dayna smiled, "Justin, this is Felicia."
"Hi." He smiled and shook her hand.
"Shes from here, and shes gonna go out with us tonight." Dayna smiled, assuming that Felicia would say yes now that she knew she wasnt lying.
"Im not going, but thats cool. Trey got a list of clubs in the area so youll have to tell him which ones dont suck." Justin laughed.
"I uh yeah yeah I can do that." Felicia turned about three shades of red as Chris turned the corner in front of her.
"You need to eat." Dayna and Justin said in unison.
"I did already. I was done before you even got there." He thwapped Justins head.
"Hey dont mess the hair." Dayna scowled playfully. "Chris, this is Felicia."
"Hey." Chris nodded and shook her hand.
"Shes going clubbing with you guys." Justin winked at Chris who immediately looked over at Dayna.
"Your project?" Chris asked with a raised eyebrow.
Dayna just laughed and nodded, "Shes from the area so shell know which ones are worth hitting."
"Cool." Chris looked Felicia over without being obvious and nodded at Dayna, as if the poor girl was on display.
"Well hey, Im going to take Felicia back to her seat. Why dont you meet us at the hotel at ten thirty tonight, we can leave from there." Dayna smiled at Felicia.
"I uh okay." Felicia continued to blush as she nodded and stuck her hands in her pockets.
"Cool, see you tonight Felicia." Chris said as he tugged Justins arm.
"Bye." She waved after them, and then she and Dayna walked back through the maze and up the stairs to the main corridor. "Holy shit. You really do know them." Felicia said with a shaking voice.
"Yeah." Dayna laughed. "Im the tour stylist."
"Wow, I didnt... just wow." She laughed and almost sounded like Krissy.
"So youll come?"
"Are you kidding? Of course!"
"Okay, but dont go nuts and bring all your friends or anything." Dayna warned as an after thought. "Otherwise the guys wont be able to go out at all."
"None of my friends would care." She laughed.
"Cool." Dayna smiled and they walked back to the stairs leading to Felicias seats. "So Ill wait for you in the lobby of the Hyatt over by the airport, by the concierge."
"Okay, ten thirty?" Felicia asked as she tried to take a couple deep breaths.
"Yeah." Dayna nodded and hoped Felicia would calm down before they met up later.
"Okay, yeah Ill be there." Felicia smiled, "Wow, I just cant believe it, whyd you pick me?"
Dayna shrugged, "You were one of the oldest ones out there, and you looked like a nice girl." And youre actually old enough to date Chris, she added to herself.
"I cant thank you enough." Felicia couldnt stop smiling as she ran down the stairs to Krissy and the other little girls. Dayna watched as she gave Krissy the glow sticks and sat down. The teenage girls didnt immediately start screaming, so she guessed that Felicia didnt tell them the plans for the night.

Felicia met Dayna as scheduled in the hotel lobby, where Dayna broke the news, "Im not going to go tonight, is that okay?"
"You youre not?" Felicia blushed quickly.
"Nah, Im kinda tired, but Chris and a couple other people are going, so go ahead with them. Itll be fun." She took Felicia around to the back and hooked her up with Chris and one of the bodyguards, "Have fun."
"Youre not going?" Chris asked with a frown.
"Nah, Im gonna hang out here tonight, catch up on some reading and stuff." Dayna smiled and gave Chris the shut up and go with it look.
"Oh okay." He smiled at Felicia. "I guess its just us."
Dayna smiled and tried not to squeal with delight, this was working out better than she thought. "What about the others?"
"No ones here." Chris shrugged and checked his watch again.
"Im here! Let the party happen people." Joey shouted as he bounded through the door. "Come on come on, were burning party time here folks." He climbed into the back of the van then leaned over the seats to honk the horn. "Lets go."
"I guess Joeys coming too." Chris looked over at Dayna.
"Hey uh Joe " Dayna started.
"You coming Day?" Joey asked as he leaned on the door.
"No." She shook her head.
"Then stop talking, Chris sweetie, lets go." Joey waved Felicia and Chris into the van. They followed slowly and shut the door. Dayna hoped for the best as the van left with the three of them and two security guards.

A warm shower was just what she needed to relax, but she ended up thinking about Lance and Patty. Hed talked to her a little after the show, and he had decided to invite her out when they played Hawaii in a couple weeks. They would be on Oahu for four days and that would be the perfect time to have a girlfriend around.
Perfect. For Lance and Patty anyway, torture for Dayna. Like seeing them together wasnt bad enough she had to see them together in paradise? In a bathing suit? "Ugh." Dayna grumbled as she wrapped the hotel robe around her body and tied the sash. She leaned forward on the bathroom counter and wiped the fog off the mirror, "You need chocolate and girl talk." She said to her reflection. She made a face then stood up and sighed as she took the towel off her head and draped it over the shower rod.
The brush ran through her hair swiftly without catching any tangles. She threw her still damp hair into a bun to hopefully give her some natural looking waves the next day, then spritzed it with a protein spray and picked up her cell phone. She looked up Noras number in her electronic address book and pressed talk. Nora was the only other girl on tour that Dayna ever talked to; she was a lighting technician and they ate lunch together sometimes.
Noras phone went to voicemail and Dayna dropped her phone onto the bed. She sighed and frowned then reached for the phone again; she was at that point where any company was better than none, and she closed her eyes as she dialed JCs cell phone. "Hlo?" He mumbled into the phone as he used his free hand to smooth shaving cream across his chin.
"Hey, whats up?"
"Whos this?"
"How many girls call your cell after eleven?" Dayna laughed.
"Quite a few." JC smiled as he recognized her voice. "Youre staying in tonight?"
"Yeah." Dayna sighed. "You?"
JC glanced over at the outfit laying out on his bed, "Umm, Im not sure. Why? Whats up?"
"Well I was uh, I was going to see if you wanted to come over and watch Die Hard again, since I fell asleep last time." Dayna curled her feet under her in the chair and stifled a yawn.
"Oh." JC quickly weighed his options. A night out on the town with Lance and some of his friends, or a night with Dayna. "That sounds good." He reached for a towel and wiped the shaving cream off. "Are you ready now?"
"Well I need to throw some clothes on, but yeah." Dayna looked down at the pale yellow hotel robe.
JC closed his eyes slowly and tried to force the image of Dayna "needing to throw clothes on" from his mind. "Ive gotta send Lonnie down to the bus to get the movie, but then Ill come over."
"Great." Dayna smiled. "See you then."
"Okay. Oh wait, what room?"
"8990." Dayna said. "Ill make the popcorn, can you swing by and get some cokes?"
"Sure." JC nodded and tore his towel from around his waist. He dropped it over the shower rod and walked into the main room. "See ya in a few."
"Bye." Dayna hung up her phone and grabbed her pajamas from her duffel bag. The tank top and flannel shorts were the most comfortable things she owned and she would live in them if she could. Her dark hair was already coming out of the bun as she pulled the tank top over her head and reached for the lotion. She smoothed it into her legs and elbows then went to the little mini bar area to pop the popcorn.
By the time JC knocked on her door ten minutes later, the popcorn was in a bowl and she had already eaten several handfuls. "Hi, thanks for coming over." Her dark eyes smiled up at him as she held the door open.
JC walked into the warm room and looked around, "Anytime. Are you trying to turn this place into a sauna?"
"Its freezing outside." Dayna laughed and shut the door behind him.
"Youre a wuss." He said softly as he caught the faint smell of citrus basil lotion. Without thinking he smiled and said, "Wow, you smell good."
"Thanks." She gave him a weird look and walked past him with the bowl of popcorn.
JC recovered quickly and cleared his throat, "You know, we just watched this last week." JC tossed two movies onto the bed and handed Dayna a cold can of diet coke.
"I know, but I fell asleep."
"Then can we at least put on part two? Youll fall asleep again anyway, and Ive already seen this one a hundred times." He laughed.
"If you dont want to stay and watch part one, you dont have to." Dayna raised her eyebrow at him with a smile.
"Nah, its cool." JC said, as if hed leave. He sat at the head of the bed just like before, and kicked his shoes off onto the floor. He brought his knees up to his chin and scratched the side of his nose as Dayna crossed the room and slid the tape into the VCR.
She pressed play then laid on her stomach with her knees bent, "Are my feet in your way?" She asked over her shoulder.
"Nope." JC shook his head. The fact was that her head and feet were both in the way, but he wasnt going to say anything. He had no intention of actually watching the movie for the three thousandth time anyway.
JC only half watched the movie; he had the whole thing practically memorized. He watched Dayna twirl an escaped lock of hair around her finger slower and slower until she lay her head down about twenty minutes before the movie ended.
Her eyelids fluttered every now and then, as her breathing became deep and regular. JC watched the end of the movie, then carefully slid off the bed and turned the TV off. The bowl of popcorn threatened to fall off the bed so he picked it up carefully and set it on the table by the sliding glass door.
JC watched her for a minute before he pulled the sheet up to cover her legs and turned out the light. He stood there debating whether or not he should go back to his room, but decided against it. He sighed and removed his jeans, folding them neatly before laying them on the floor beside his shoes. He pulled up the waist of his boxers and tugged the curtains open a few inches to let the moon light into the room. He sat at the head of the bed with his bare feet stretched out in front of him, resting only a few inches from Daynas back.
His mind danced between dreams and reality as he imagined himself dating Dayna, spending the night in her room at her wish, being able to reach up and trail his hand up her calf to her thigh, kissing her bare shoulder, holding her all night long. JC quickly squeezed his eyes shut as he shook his head, he couldnt let him mind do that, not when she was so close.
"The more you push me away, the more I want you." He whispered, barely moving his lips. She was playing a game with him by inviting him over, and she didnt even know it. Every time he saw her, he wanted to touch her and he wasnt sure that feeling would stop until he was able to.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The phone at Daynas bedside rang just after four in the morning, and JC grabbed it out of habit. He had it pressed against his ear and was about ready to say something when he realized whos room he was in. JC clamped his mouth shut and placed his hand over the mouth piece as he nudged Dayna with his knee, "Hey Dayna, its your wake up call." He whispered loudly.
She mumbled something under her breath and rolled away from him, "Twenty minutes." She said softly.
"Twenty minutes? No, theyre on the phone." He whispered as he held it to her ear.
"Call back in twenty." She mumbled into the receiver.
"Dayna? Are you okay?" Dave asked. Hed just listened to a minute of muffled sounds and silence.
"Uh huh, dropped the phone. Twenty minutes." She grumbled and pulled the comforter up over her head.
"You can sleep on the bus, and the bus is leaving in twenty. Youre the last person on my list, so get up and meet us in the parking lot." Dave smiled.
"You suck." Dayna sighed and opened her eyes.
"Yep, see you then." Dave hung up the phone and Dayna sat perfectly still for a second.
"Why didnt you just answer it?" She asked a minute later when she tossed her blankets aside and sat up.
"Because I knew it was Dave and Im well Im in your room." He said softly as he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Yeah?"
"Well " He shrugged and stood up as she went into the bathroom and turned the shower on.
"He knows youre in here." Dayna rolled her eyes and shut herself in the bathroom. She shouted to be heard over the water, "Trust me, they always know where you are. Im the last on the list, if you were really MIA theyd have called a long time ago."
JC sat on the bed and put his shoes on, then called Daves room to let him know that hed be down at the buses on time, just in case he was worried. Dave laughed lightly and assured JC that he hadnt been worried. Dayna came out of the bathroom fully dressed less than ten minutes later and smiled, "Power shower."
"You dont care that they know?"
"Who knows what?"
"That I stayed here last night."
"Why would I care?"
"Well you know theyll probably think "
"They can think what theyd like, just dont confirm it and well be fine."
"Theres nothing to confirm." JC forced a smiled.
"Bingo." Dayna smiled brightly and patted his cheek. "Come on, weve gotta be down there in like, five minutes."
"I dont get a shower?"
"If you think you can manage one in the next three minutes, go right ahead." She shrugged and grabbed her duffel bag to shove her bathroom stuff in. JC shook his head and took the movie from the VCR as they headed out.
The caravan of buses ambled down the highway at sixty-five miles an hour and made it to Santa Fe with time to spare. The crew went straight to the venue while the guys went to their radio appearances that were scheduled. Dayna didnt see any of them until that evening when they got together at the arena to get ready for the meet and greet.
"So ? Howd it go last night?" Dayna asked as she ran her fingers through Chriss damp hair. JC and Lance were in their own little world over on the couch, there were apparently some scheduling conflicts that they needed to work out.
"Well, she didnt improve your track record any." Chris sighed.
"Youre kidding, what happened?"
"Nothing, but Im sure Joeys your new best friend."
"What? Why?"
"He found someone more skanky than him."
"What?!" Dayna stopped with her hands and turned his chair around to face her.
"She was all over everyone last night, Joey included."
"Well you were at a club."
"I think she said a total of 20 sentences to me last night and each one contained the letters "J" and "C"."
"Oh man, youre kidding. I hooked you up with a JC fan?"
"I think that last word there was your key."
"You dont want me to hook you up with fans?" Dayna asked with a half smile.
"Fans as a general rule want to meet the other guys." Chris sighed.
"But youve hooked up with fans."
"Well yeah, but not like to date them or whatever." He rolled his eyes and opened the magazine in his lap as Dayna turned the hair drier on.
"Please tell me you didnt have sex with the woman." Dayna met his eye in the mirror.
"No." Chris shook his head slightly. "Relax. But Im not calling her, so get that little fantasy outta your head."
"You dont have to call her. Not if you didnt have a good time or whatever."
"Well I can tell you for certain shes not the one. Not even close."
"Okay." Dayna frowned. She would have to find better ways to find dates for Chris. She would just give up, but keeping her mind on girls for Chris kept her mind off of Lance, and that was getting harder and harder each day.
She did their hair quickly then disappeared back onto the bus to try to catch a nap, she hadnt gotten much sleep the last couple nights and a three hour nap was just what she needed. The others werent as lucky; they piled into the dressing room to prepare for the show.
"Christopher! My man!" Their security guard opened the door to their dressing room.
"Reginald! Big guy!" Justin shouted back with the same mock enthusiasm.
"Wheres my man?" Reggie asked.
"Hes in the can, whats up?" Justin wrapped his towel around his middle and stepped out from behind the rack.
"Hes got a visitor out in the meet and greet line. I know how you kids like to be warned if a one nighters coming back to haunt you."
"Oooh, Chris had a one nighter and shes here?" Justin laughed and looked toward the back of the room.
"Wait, who?" Chris appeared from around the corner. "I dont know anyone in Kansas."
"Were in Santa Fe."
"Oh man." Chris closed his eyes in thought, "Who is it?"
"Felicia." Reggie smiled.
"Shit, are you serious?" Chris sighed. "Long brown hair, mid 20s?"
"Thats her."
"Shes here? Where is she?"
"She in line at the meet and greet, I just wanted to give you a heads up."
"Thanks." Chris sighed and shook his head as he pulled his shirt over his head.
"Anytime." Reggie laughed and ducked back out the door.
"One nighter?" Justin asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Not hardly. Dayna hooked us up and we went out last night."
"In Phoenix?"
"Yeah." Chris nodded. "So much for good-byes huh?" He sighed and finished getting dressed as the others came in and got ready. They all made it to the meet and greet in time, but Chris was the only one dreading it.
He was a gentleman when she came around, and signed her shirt just like the others. Chris pulled Lance into the shot as she raised a camera to get a picture of him, then he said something about being really busy and hed talk to her later. It was a line he, and every other man on the planet had used, but he had no intention of talking to her again.
Felicia tried to stick around after the meet and greet was over, but the security kindly escorted her out to the main arena floor where she joined the other fans in their seats. They had heard all of the "Justin and I went to school together" and "Ive known him for years, were cousins" speeches, so her flimsy, "Chris and I went out last night" story didnt even come close to earning her a pass.
Chris put her out of his mind as they did the show and mentally reminded himself to talk to Dayna about improving her screening process.
It was after midnight before they left the arena and headed back to the hotel, so by the time Chris made it to his room and unlocked the door, it was closer to one in the morning. They had to be up the next morning for a meeting to discuss their new album, so all Chris wanted to do was go to sleep, and soon.
Chris was just about to fall into his bed when the phone on his nightstand rang loudly. "Hello?" Chris answered with a yawn. No one said anything for a second, so he repeated himself, "Hello?"
"Chris?" A girl asked.
"Whos this?"
"This is Felicia." She said with a short laugh.
Chris cringed as he sat on the corner of the bed and untied his shoes; "Its like, one in the morning."
"I know, Ive been calling all night. Im in town too and I thought we could get together tomorrow. You know, maybe grab some lunch down in the little restaurant by the pool or something?"
"I have things to do tomorrow." Chris yawned again. "Were super busy."
"Well you have to eat right?" She smiled.
"Wherever we are itll be catered." Chris unbuttoned his pants, then pulled them off and tossed them over his suitcase.
"Aww catered food is no good. Join me for lunch tomorrow, itll be fun." She insisted with a smile.
"I cant. I have to go to bed now."
"You cant possibly be tired, you just got in." She smiled.
"Ive gotta be up in a couple hours." Chris shook his head and pulled the covers back on his bed. "Good night." He hung up the phone, then immediately picked it up again, "Hi, is this the front desk?"
"Yes it is, how can I help you Mr. Kirkpatrick?"
"Is there a way to make sure no one calls my room?"
"Of course, Ill put a do not disturb on your line." The young lady said with a smile.
"Okay, great." Chris sighed and took his watch off, "Oh wait, I have a wake up call in the morning."
"That will ring as usual." The girl reassured him. "Ill make certain no other calls go through tonight."
"Thanks." Chris smiled. "Gnight."
"Good night Mr. Kirkpatrick."
Chris hung up the phone and turned the light off before sinking into the bed. He pulled the covers over his head and fell asleep, vowing to talk to Dayna in the morning.

"Hey Day, guess who called me at one in the morning?" Chris said as he leaned against the counter in the little hair and make-up room. She looked up and met his eye in the mirror and she snipped Joeys hair. She shrugged and went back to trimming the hair around Joeys ear. "Felicia."
"Oh yeah?" Dayna blushed quickly then dropped her scissors onto the counter beside Chris.
"Yeah."
"At one in the morning?" Joey asked.
"Yeah." Chris nodded.
"You were home at one?" Joey yawned and scratched at his stubbly chin. "Man, I didnt get in till like, an hour ago."
"Which would explain the scent." Dayna crinkled her nose and laughed.
"Yeah, I was back in at one. She called all night until she reached me or shes stalking the place or something." Chris scowled.
"Wait, shes the chick from the other night? The one at the show last night?"
"And the meet and greet." Chris sighed. "Youve gotta do something about her Day."
"Youre pissed that a girl is all over your pants?" Joey laughed.
"Youre not helping."
"Were leaving this afternoon, youll be rid of her." Dayna sighed.
"I thought we had two shows here?"
"No, two in Phoenix, one in Santa Fe, one in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma is tomorrow night."
"Cool, so we wont even be in New Mexico tonight. Right on." Chris nodded.
"Right, so thatll be that." Dayna smiled, hoping that traveling to Oklahoma would get rid of her. She didnt Chris any more upset than he already was.

Unfortunately, Oklahoma wasnt quite far enough. Chris spotted her in the front row at the concert waving a teddy bear at JC every time he came close to her side of the stage. When he didnt see it after the tenth time, she tossed it at the stage, barely missing Justins feet.
Chris kept his mind on the show, but afterwards he tracked Dayna down and pulled her aside in the dressing room to have a talk with her about the crazy stalker chick who had followed them for the past three days.
"Shes seriously got stalker issues." Chris snapped at Dayna.
"Youre over reacting. A lot of fans go to more than one show." Dayna blushed quickly. She knew he wasnt exactly over reacting, but she also didnt want to make a big deal out of it.
"Yeah, but four? In different cities? And hunting down our hotels? Trying to get backstage? Thats a bit excessive."
"You have some obsessive fans."
"Which is exactly what I was trying to stay away from, and then there you go hooking me up with the leader of the psychos."
"Shes not that bad, at least she hasnt snuck onto the bus or anything."
"Yet." Chris added as the door swung open across the room.
"Chris!" Trey shouted as he poked his head in the dressing room to find Chris and Dayna in the middle of their little confrontation.
"What?" Chris asked with more than a hint of annoyance.
"Theres some girl out here who swears she knows you, Felicia Matten? She sounds legit, do you want me to bring her back?" Trey shrugged.
"See?!" Chris waved his arms at Dayna who just cringed. "You found her, you get rid of her." Chris stormed past Dayna and headed for the door, "Consider your little project over Dayna, Im done."
