All I Want for Christmas Is You
Chapter Nine: Call Him

I woke up and glanced at the clock. 12:30. I turned over in bed and saw Veronica, who was dressed and ready to leave out the door. I sat up, rubbing my sleepy eyes. “Where are you going?”

Veronica turned to me and smiled. “Out with Justin. We have a date.”

I made a face. “What?”

She sat down on the foot of my bed. “He called me this morning and asked me out tonight, but I told him I had to work tonight so he asked me out for this afternoon.”

I shook my head, not comprehending. “What?”

“Justin,” Veronica said in a slower, clearer voice.

“I got that! I just-oh my God!”

Veronica smiled. “You see all you have to do is put yourself out there and by doing that, you may get yourself a date.”

“I know Veronica, I know.” I fell back onto my pillows.

“I’m just saying if you like JC-”

I sat back up. “I poured a glass of tea over Justin’s head for crying out loud IN HIS DEFENSE. If that didn’t get JC’s attention then I don’t know what will.”

“Call him.”

“No!”

“Veronica, Justin is here!” someone called from downstairs.

She stood up, smiling at me. “Call him.”

“I can’t. I don’t have his number.”

“That’s a lame excuse. I’ll get you his number.” Veronica left the room, going downstairs. She smiled seeing Justin. He smiled back.

“You looked great.”

“Thanks. You do too. Can I ask you a favor?”

“Sure.”

“Could you give me JC’s number?”

Justin gave Veronica a confused look. “Oookay. Why do you need his number?”

“Oh.” She laughed softly. “It’s not for me, it’s for Amanda. Between you and me she likes him.”

“This explains why she poured tea over my head last week at the restaurant.” He laughed.

“Exactly. So could you give me JC’s number so I could give it to Amanda?”

Chuckling softly himself, Justin said, “Do you have a pen and paper?”

“One sec.” Veronica rushed off and came back with a pen and paper. She gave them to Justin and he jotted down his friend’s number.

“Do you think she’ll call him?” he asked, giving Veronica back the paper.

“I doubt it, but she might surprise me. He’s not dating anyone is he?”

“Not that I know of.”

She nodded. “I’ll be right back.” Veronica rushed back upstairs and into our room.

I turned over in my bed and looked at her. “I thought you left?”

“And I thought you would be up and about.” She held up a piece of paper with JC’s number on it. “Call him. He’s not dating anyone.” She gave me the paper and left the room, ruffling Emily’s hair as she walked passed her in the doorway.

I looked at the number and folded the paper and slipped it into my pillow case for safe keeping, then climbed out of bed and gathered my clothes together.

“You missed breakfast and lunch.”

I jumped slightly being startled and turned around noticing Emily for the first time standing in the doorway of my room. I smiled at her. “It’s okay, I’m not that hungry anyway.” She nodded. “I’m going to go take a shower. I’ll be out in a few minutes.”

“Okay.” Emily watched me leave and walk into the bathroom and close the door behind me. She turned and walked into the room and looked around. She wondered over to Veronica’s bed, jumped on it a couple of times and then wondered over to my bed. She picked up my pillow and reached inside and dug around until she found the paper I slipped inside. Finding it she smiled to herself and ran out of the room.
