All I Want for Christmas Is You
Chapter Twenty-Two: On My Own…

I sighed heavily, and hung up the phone. “I think. No I will need to get myself a part time job. I can’t afford to rent an apartment by myself with just the money I’m making waitressing at the restaurant.”

Veronica looked up from packing her things. She walked over to my bed. “Amanda, if you want I’ll-”

“No,” I said cutting her short, knowing what she was going to say “you move in with Justin. From what you told me he was excited to have you moving in with him.”

She nodded. “I don’t understand why you don’t move in with JC. You told me he asked you to move in with him yesterday.”

“I lied to you.”

“He didn’t ask you?”

“No.”

“Are you sure? Maybe you just didn’t hear him.” She chuckled.

“No.” I laughed softly. “He didn’t ask. I was waiting for him to ask, but uhm…he never did. I figured he wasn’t ready for such a big step in our relationship.”

“Big step? Amanda, he confessed his love for you on the first date.” I chuckled. “Maybe he’s just waiting for the right moment.”

“You mean when I’m broke and living on the street and begging for money?”

Veronica laughed and said, “Nooo. He knows next Tuesday the day after Christmas I’m moving out, so he’s probably waiting until then.”

“To what?”

“I don’t know to surprise you.”

“With what?”

She laughed again. “You ask too many questions to questions I don’t know the answers to. Speaking of Christmas did you ever make a list?”

“No did you?”

“No I already got what I wanted for Christmas a great guy and a home.”

I smiled at Veronica, and then turned back to the newspapers I scattered on my bed. I gathered them up into a pile and stood up. “Well I’m going to go look for a part time job. Wish me luck.”

“Want me to go with you?”

“Uhm…no,” I said, looking at the boxes on her bed. “You stay here and finish packing.” I gave Veronica’s a faint smile and turned and left the room, running into Emily in the hall.

“Are you going somewhere?” she asked me curiously.

“Yeah I’m going to go look for a part time job.”

“But you already have a job.”

I smiled at Emily. “I know, but I need another if I want to afford an apartment.”

“Oooh.” She pushed her hair away her face. “Are you going to come visit me when you move?”

“A pack of wild dogs couldn’t keep me away.” Emily giggled and hugged me tight before someone called her name and she ran off to play. I smiled to myself and left downstairs and out the door.
