All I Want for Christmas Is You
Chapter Eighteen: Beauty Is Unknown

I woke up feeling someone shaking me. I groaned and turned over in bed, pulling my pillow over my head. “Leave me alone.”

“Amanda,” said Veronica “you have to get up. Today is the big day.”

I peeked one eye open and saw Veronica hovering over me. “What time is it?”

She glanced over her shoulder at the clock. “5:00.”

I groaned and turned over in my bed, burying my face in my mattress. “It’s too early.”

“Amanda, you have exactly 2 hours to take a shower and make yourself look pretty for JC.”

“Go to hell.”

She put her hands on her hips and looked down at me. “Amanda, you have been waiting for today since Wednesday.”

“It’s 5:00 in the morning!”

“So?! Get up!”

“No!”

“Amanda,” Veronica said, raising her tone.

I turned back over and looked at Veronica annoyed. “It does not take me 2 hours to make myself look pretty. I’m not THAT ugly.”

She chuckled softly. “I know you’re not, but don’t you want to maybe take a little more time getting ready today? Maybe put a little make up on, fix your hair?”

“No.” I turned over onto my side and pulled the covers up to my neck. “Turn the lights off when you leave, please. Thank you.”

Veronica walked to the door. “I’m not waking you if you over sleep.”

“I’m not going to over sleep.” I yawned sleepily. “I set my alarm thingy.”

“Amanda, you don’t even know how to work an alarm.”

“I do too, shut up. Turn off the light.”

Switching off the light, Veronica said, “You’re going to over sleeppp” and left the room.

“No I’m not shut up.” I snuggled under my covers and closed my eyes, telling myself I just had an hour to sleep. When I opened my eyes again, the sunlight was filling my dark bedroom. I turned over in bed and looked at the clock on the night stand. 10:00. My eyes widen in horror. I had over slept. I threw the covers off my bed and ran downstairs into the living room, where Veronica, Justin and JC were watching TV.

They turned to me and Justin smiled and reached his hand out, palm up to Veronica and JC. “I win. Pay up. 10:00 on the dot.”

I rolled my eyes. “You made a bet on when I would wake up?”

“Yeah and I won,” said Justin. He nudged JC and winked at Veronica. “JC, you pay up and you sexy thang, can pay me later.”

JC chuckled softly and looked at me. “You let me down,” he said, reaching into his back pants pocket. “You owe me.”

Veronica looked at me, amused. “I thought you said you set your ALARM?” I gave her a ‘you got to be kidding’ look, and she laughed.

“Well, uhm, whenever you’re ready,” said JC.

I turned to him. “Oh right. Give me a few minutes.” I left the living room, heading back upstairs.

Justin looked at Veronica. “Why does it take Amanda just a few minutes to get ready and you hours?”

“HEY! It doesn’t take me hours to get ready. It’s more like an hour and forty minutes. You are just impatient.”

“Still an hour and forty minutes is a long time. Amanda can be ready and out the door in thirty.”

“And do you want to know why? It’s because she doesn’t wear makeup and she wears what she pleases. She doesn’t care about looking good or being in style. I’m totally opposite. Speaking of looking good, I’ll be right back.” Veronica stood up and left the room.

“Don’t you just love her?” Justin glanced at JC with a smile.

JC laughed softly. “If you say so.”

“BASTARD, I HARD THAT!” shouted Veronica from the next room. Justin laughed.

“How can you not love that?” JC asked sarcastically, and Justin hit him on his head. “Ow man, I was just saying.”

“Shut-up now JC, right now.” Justin warned, smiling.

“Fine.”
